The Soviet Union dissolved on December 25, 1991 According to Al-Ahram newspaper

The deviations that occurred in the nature of international balances after the end of the world war, in which the emergence of the Soviet Union as an international power constituted an important detail, led to the emergence of the so-called multipolarity of the international, and as a result of this the emergence of new international equations based on these new variables, which led to the occurrence of Great changes and the formation of eastern and western international blocs that played an active role in determining the rules of international balances. In fact, the second half of the last century witnessed a sharp international competition between the Soviet Union on the one hand, and the United States and its allies on the other. The rivalry between them reached the point of military confrontation at times, as happened in Cuba in 1961. And the matter was not limited to Cuba, as the competition between them included most of the parts of the globe because the Soviet Union wanted to export its socialist revolution to the third world as well as its support for liberation movements in the third world countries, which annoyed the United States and pushed it to take a position of confrontation and defend its capitalist ideology. This confrontation, known as the Cold War, led to the depletion of the economic potential of the Soviet Union, which prompted its leadership to have to take a new approach in its desire for reform. Therefore, Mikhail Gorbachev proceeded to do so according to what he called (perestroika and glasnost), but the results were adverse and disastrous for the union and eventually led to The weakening and disintegration of the Union on December 25, 1991. That collapse constituted a resounding event of great importance in the twentieth century, and this formed an incentive for research and media institutions, writers and journalists to study this event, and Al-Ahram Newspaper was the first tracker of these events through its coverage of developments in the Soviet Union on the eve of its disintegration.
